Newell Elementary School teacher Bill Chadek receives Wal-Mart teaching award

Bill Chadek, a fifth-grade teacher at Newell Elementary School, received a Wal-Mart Stores Teacher of the Year Award from Sam's Club representatives Nov. 5 at the school.

Chadek also received $1,000 in addition to the award. He has taught at Newell Elementary School since 1976.

Several nominations were submitted recommending Chadek for the award. Taylor Rodriguez, now a sixth-grader at Walnut Middle School, submitted one of the nominations, and her nomination letter was read at the Nov. 5 presentation. Rodriguez credited her former teacher for inspiring her educationally.
