Newell Elementary School schedules Author for a Day event

Newell Elementary School's Author for a Day event will be Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, at the school at 2700 W. 13th St.

The purpose of the event is to inspire students to enjoy writing through drawing and creative thinking, Principal Brad Wolfe said.

Kylie Kinsley, an author and professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will be the presenter.

Kinsley will work with Newell students in kindergarten through fifth grade from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18 concerning writing stories and how people may read the exact same words on a page, yet interpret stories in different ways. Newell Elementary School's PTA is sponsoring the Sept. 18 workshop.

Kinsley will give a presentation that is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at the school, sponsored by the Nebraska Literacy Council.
