More than 200 G.I. Public Schools musicians featured in Spring String Fling
More than 200 Grand Island Public Schools musicians in fifth through 12th grades will perform at the annual Spring String Fling at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, at Walnut Middle School's gym, Director Christa Speed said.
The fifth-grade all-city elementary school orchestra comprised of students from all 14 Grand Island Public Schools elementary schools will perform. The middle school orchestra with students from Barr, Walnut, and Westridge Middle Schools will also be featured. The Grand Island Senior High School Orchestra performance will feature five senior violinists: Abby Henriquez, Ivon Henriquez, Amanda Hill, Amber Kunze, and Nyssa Nabity. The soloists will perform in the musical selection "Perpetual Motion" by Carl Bohm.
The concert will conclude with a grand finale with all of the musicians performing "Orpheus in the Underworld" by Jacques Offenbach. Marla Rischling and Christa Speed are the orchestra directors.
The concert is free and is open to the public.
