Learning the ropes

Numerous West Lawn Elementary students stayed late after school on Wednesday for "Destination North America" that helped teach them more about their native continent.
Break-out sessions for the after-school lessons knot-tying, action art, square-dancing, card games, American folk tales and rodeo/ranching.
In several cases, West Lawn students learned lessons not just of modern-day North America but also of its recent past. That certainly was true for square dancing, which Rich Maciejweski of Grand Island explained had its roots in barn dances.
