Kindles in the classroom

"It's cool to read."

According to Grand Island Senior High English teacher Laura Cushing, the cool factor comes not just from reading's intrinsic value, but the technology many Senior High students now associate with the act of reading.

"It's cool to have a smartphone," Cushing said. "It's cool to have a Kindle. It's really cool to have a Kindle Fire."

Smartphones, Kindles and Kindle Fires are e-readers. A person's ability to download and read a book almost any time, anywhere as long as they're near an Internet connection reveals that they are the owners of the latest technology.

The additional cachét of a Kindle Fire comes from the fact it has a relatively large, full-color screen.
Using cool technology is second nature for most teenagers, but access to the newest technology is not universal.  Full Story
