Jefferson Elementary School offers Literacy Night
Jefferson Elementary School is sponsoring a Literacy Night from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Grand Island Public Library at 211 N. Washington St., Principal Jeanna Fiala said.
The purpose of the event is to promote family literacy for Jefferson's students and their families, she said.
After an orientation on March 19, participants will receive a map of the library, labeled with stations and activities at each station. Jefferson teachers will give participants walking tours of the library.
Activities include signing up for a library card, getting information about the library's summer reading program, learning how to use various library resources for children and adults, making a craft, visiting the library's Discovery Center for preschoolers, visiting the library's computer areas, reviewing how to check out materials, and visiting the Bookmobile.
Participants will receive cookies and drinks provided by Jefferson's PTA, and each Jefferson student will receive a free book.
