GRAND ISLAND —
Central
Nebraska residents should be thinking "cute" -- as in adorably cute
dogs and cats -- when they hear the phrase, "Pet Pin-Up Calendar."
They also should be thinking about the Central Nebraska Humane Society,
which has been selling the popular calendars for the past six years.
But for the first time, the Humane Society has taken on a partner for
its annual fundraiser.
Students in Grand Island Senior High's DECA Club are working with the
Humane Society from beginning to end on the project, which starts with
proud pet owners submitting photos of their cherished cats and dogs.
In previous years, the Humane Society sought photo submissions from Grand Island area residents for inclusion on the calendar.
People then "voted" for their favorite pet photos, with each $1
donation counting as a single ballot. The Humane Society followed its
normal voting procedures for the 2009 calendar.
