Holiday concerts, performances scheduled throughout G.I. Public Schools

Holiday band, orchestra, and vocal music concerts and plays are scheduled at schools throughout the Grand Island Public Schools during the next month.

Below is a list of performances at each school, listed alphabetically by elementary school, middle school, and high school:

Dodge Elementary School: Dodge's holiday programs at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, Grade 2; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, Grade 3; 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, kindergarten; and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, Grade 1. All performances are at the school at 641 S. Oak St. The school's PTO will be raffling a Nintendo DS each night as a fund-raiser. Melanie Malone and Cheryl Russell teach vocal music at Dodge.

Engleman Elementary School: Engleman's holiday programs are at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, for students in Grades K-3 and at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, for students in Grades 4-5 at Grand Island Senior High School's auditorium, 2124 N. Lafayette Ave. Marti Sanchez is Engleman's vocal music teacher.

Gates Elementary School: Gates Elementary School's "Holiday Wishes" program will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Grand Island Senior High School's auditorium, 2124 N. Lafayette Ave. Larry Decker is Gates' vocal music teacher.

Howard Elementary School: Howard's holiday programs are at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, for Grades 3-5 and at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, for Grades K-2. The school is located at 502 W. Ninth St. Sarah Smith teaches vocal music at Howard.

Jefferson Elementary School: Jefferson Elementary School's program, "Christmas is the Time for Making Music," will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Walnut Middle School, 1600 N. Custer Ave. Emily Brady is Jefferson's vocal music teacher.

Knickrehm Elementary School: Knickrehm Elementary School's holiday program for students in Grades K-5 will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, in Grand Island Senior High School's auditorium, 2124 N. Lafayette Ave. Emily Brady, Marti Sanchez, and Jeff Vyhlidal are Knickrehm's vocal music teachers.

Lincoln Elementary School: Lincoln Elementary School's Christmas program will be Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the school at 805 N. Beal St. Students in Grades K-1 will perform at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8, and students in Grades 2-3 will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Cookies and punch will be served after each program. Lincoln's vocal music teacher is Cheryl Russell.

Newell Elementary School: Newell's holiday program featuring students in Grades K-3 will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, in Grand Island Senior High School's auditorium at 2124 N. Lafayette St. Newell's vocal music teacher is Kelly Allan.

Seedling Mile Elementary School: Seedling Mile's holiday program for students in Grades K-5 will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the school at 3208 E. Seedling Mile Road. Dan Prickett is Seedling Mile's vocal music teacher.

Shoemaker Elementary School: Shoemaker's Winter Program for students in Grades K-3 will be Thursday, Dec. 3, at Westridge Middle School, 4111 W. 13th St. A concert for students in Grades K-1 begins at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3, and a separate concert for students in Grades 2-3 begins at 7:10 p.m. Dec. 3. There will be an intermission between the concerts. Shoemaker's vocal music teacher is Randi Pennell.

Starr Elementary School: Starr Elementary School's Winter Program, "Through the Eyes of a Child!" will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in the school's gym at 315 Wyandotte St. Starr's vocal music teacher is Dan Prickett.

Stolley Park Elementary School: Stolley Park's Winter Concerts will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, for students in Grades K-2 and 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, for students in Grades 3-5. The concerts will be at Barr Middle School, 602 W. Stolley Park Road. Stolley Park's vocal music teachers are Larry Decker and Randi Pennell.

Wasmer Elementary School: Wasmer's Holiday Program for students in Grades K-1 will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at the Grand Theater, 316 W. Third St. A Holiday Program featuring students in Grades 2-3 will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Grand Theater. Charity LaBrie is Wasmer's vocal music teacher.

West Lawn Elementary School: West Lawn's Holiday Program featuring kindergarten students will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, in the school's gym at 3022 W. College St. Jeff Vyhlidal teaches vocal music at West Lawn.

Barr Middle School Vocal Music: Barr's sixth-grade vocal music concert will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the school's auditorium at 602 W. Stolley Park Road. The vocal music concert for students in Grades 7-8 will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the school's auditorium. Barr's vocal music teacher is Donica Vonderohe.

Barr Middle School Band: The school's holiday band concert for students in Grades 6-8 will be Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the school at 602 W. Stolley Park Road. The sixth-grade band will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 8. The seventh- and eighth-grade band will perform at 8 p.m. Dec. 8. Barr's band teacher is Lew Cole.

Barr, Walnut, and Westridge Middle School Orchestra: A winter concert featuring orchestra students from Barr, Walnut, and Westridge Middle Schools will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Westridge Middle School, 4111 W. 13th St. Christa Speed and Marla Rischling are middle school orchestra teachers.

Walnut Middle School Vocal Music: Walnut's "Cool Yule" concert featuring eighth-grade students will be at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, for students and at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, for parents in the school's auditorium at 1600 N. Custer Ave. The concert features Santa as the emcee. Special guests will include Elvis, Loretta Poinsettia, Bill Holly and the Mistletoes, The Reindeer Sisters, The Uh-huh Girls, Tina Tinsel, Rappers Fa La and La Cool, and Scrooge. The eighth-grade show choir and selected small groups will also perform. Walnut's vocal music concert featuring seventh-grade students will be at 2:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, for students and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 for parents. This show will feature the seventh-grade chorus, seventh-grade show choir, and selected small groups. Musical selections include "Rudolph's Rose," "The 12 Groovy Days of Christmas," "The Reindeer Hop," and "Christmas Bell Carol." Walnut's vocal music director is Kay Lyons.

Walnut Middle School Band: Walnut's sixth-grade band winter concert will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the school's auditorium at 1600 N. Custer Ave. Walnut's symphonic band winter concert will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the school. Walnut's wind ensemble winter concert will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the school. Walnut's band director is John Schultz.

Westridge Middle School Vocal Music: Westridge's holiday vocal music concert for students in Grades 6-8 will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, and at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the school's auditorium at 4111 W. 13th St. Julie Sackschewsky is Westridge's vocal music teacher.

Westridge Middle School Band: Westridge's holiday band concerts will be on Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the school's auditorium at 4111 W. 13th St. The sixth-grade band will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 15. The band for seventh- and eighth-grade students performs at 8 p.m. Dec. 15. Terry Speed is Westridge's band director.

Grand Island Senior High School:
The high school's Holiday Orchestra Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, in the school's auditorium at 2124 N. Lafayette Ave. Christa Speed is the high school's orchestra director.

Students will present "A Christmas Carol" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 in the Little Theatre. Greg Ulmer is director of theatre at Grand Island Senior High School, and John Haberman also is a theatre teacher at the high school.

The Holiday Band Concert will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 in the high school's auditorium. Louie Eckhardt is the band director.

The Holiday Vocal Music Concert will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the high school's auditorium. The high school's vocal music teachers are Taylor Jones and Adam Lambert.
