Grand Island Senior High School presents 'A Christmas Carol,' students collect money for adaptive tricycle for kindergartener
Grand Island Senior High School's performance of "A Christmas Carol" on Sunday, Dec. 12, will have a new twist.
An adaptive tricycle will be presented to a Howard Elementary School kindergarten student at the performance that starts at 2 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Little Theater at Grand Island Senior High School, 2124 N. Lafayette Ave.
Grand Island Senior High School students collected enough money during the "Pocket Change to Make Change" fund drive to purchase the AmTryke tricycle for approximately $900, said John Haberman, a drama teacher at the high school.
Haberman said students in his homeroom organized the fund drive and challenged every high school student to donate 40 cents for the project.
The students who will receive the AmTryke is Katie Burns, daughter of Mike and Stacey Burns of Grand Island.
Other performances of "A Christmas Carol" are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Little Theater. There is no admission charge, but the free-will offering on Dec. 12 that is collected for the play will be donated to the Burns family, said Greg Ulmer, a high school drama teacher.
AmTryke manufactures therapeutic tricycles designed for children who are unable to ride a traditional bikes or tricycles.
