Grand Island school board meets with interim superintendent

The Grand Island school board sat down with interim GIPS Superintendent Harrison Cass Wednesday evening to review the goals it had set for the 2010-11 school year and beyond.

The meeting was called because the board set its goals last January before Steve Joel was hired as superintendent for the Lincoln Public Schools.

The board and interim superintendent felt they needed to review those goals so Cass not only could read them in black and white on a piece of paper, but also understand the board's rationale in adopting those goals. There is also a better understanding of what his role should be in the school district to achieve those goals and whether it might be necessary to adjust any of those goals.



The latter possibility is due to two factors. First, the district's teaching and learning goals were adopted before the departure of Vern Fisher, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, and Nancy Schisler, director of secondary teaching and learning.  Full Story
