Graduation reception planned for G.I. Public Schools Project SEARCH students

Eight Grand Island Senior High School students who have participated in Project SEARCH at Saint Francis Medical Center will be recognized at their graduation reception beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25.

The event will occur in Conference Rooms 2 and 3 at Saint Francis Medical Center, 2620 W. Faidley Ave., said Cheri Preister, a teacher at the high school.

Project SEARCH is a partnership among business, education, and vocational rehabilitation organizations to provide on-site internship experiences for high school students with disabilities ages 18 to 21, leading to competitive employment. Project SEARCH is a one-year worksite- based school-to-work program that occurs in a business setting and was launched in Grand Island at Saint Francis Medical Center in the fall of 2009.

Project SEARCH was created in 1998 and was first located at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Project SEARCH was then replicated at other hospitals and has expanded into new industry sectors, such as retail, insurance, small manufacturing, and government.
