G.I. Senior High School hosting Jazz Band Festival

Grand Island Senior High School's annual Jazz Band Festival will be Monday, Feb. 8, at the school, said Louie Eckhardt, director of bands.

The clinicians are Dr. Paul Haar, professor of jazz studies and saxophone at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Dr. Peter Madsen, professor of jazz studies and trombone at the University of Nebraska-Omaha; and Steve Helfand, percussionist with the U.S. Air Force Heartland of America Band and drummer with the U.S. Air Force Noteables.

The event is open to the public, and there is no admission charge.

Each ensemble will perform for approximately 20 minutes and then receive a critique.

Groups from the following schools will perform: Grand Island Senior High School, Grand Island Central Catholic, Grand Island Northwest, Kearney High School, Fremont High School, Aurora Middle and High School, Waverly High School, Hastings High School, Norfolk High School, and North Platte High School.

*10:30 a.m., Kearney High School, Jazz Lab Band
*11 a.m., Grand Island Central Catholic, Crusader Blues
*11:30 a.m., Kearney High School, Jazz Ensemble
*Noon, Fremont High School, Jazz II
*12:30 p.m., Aurora Public Schools, Middle School Jazz Band
*1 p.m., Fremont High School, Jazz I
*1:30 p.m., Aurora Public Schools, High School Jazz Band
*2 p.m., Waverly High School, Jazz Band
*2:30 p.m., Hastings High School, Tiger Jazz Ensemble
*3 p.m., Grand Island Northwest, Jazz Band
*3:30 p.m., Norfolk High School, Jazz II
*4 p.m., Norfolk High School, Jazz I
*4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., break
*5:30 p.m., Grand Island Senior High School, Stage Band
*6 p.m., North Platte High School, Jazz Band
*6:30 p.m., Grand Island Senior High School, Jazz Ensemble
