G.I. Senior High School hosting district music contest
Approximately 1,400 students will participate in the Nebraska School Activities Association District Music Contest Friday, April 23, at Grand Island Senior High School. Christa Speed, orchestra director at the high school, is coordinating the contest in Grand Island.
Schools participating in the district music contest include Grand Island Senior High School and Grand Island Northwest.
Other participating districts include Adams Central, Aurora, Central City, Cozad, Gibbon, Gothenburg, Hastings, Kearney, Lexington, St. Paul, and Wood River, Speed said.
Choirs, bands, orchestras, small instrumental and vocal ensembles, and instrumental and vocal soloists will perform. Student performers will receive critiques and ratings from judges. Performances will begin at 8 a.m. April 23 and will continue throughout the day. Performances are free and open to the public.
The NSAA has six geographic districts in the state. Grand Island Senior High School is hosting the District IV music contest for Class AA (601 or more students), Class A (301 to 600 students), and Class B (151 to 300 students).
Grand Island Senior High School students will not be in classes on April 23 because it is a professional development day for school district staff. Students in the district music contest will use space throughout the high school, including classrooms in the 200, 300, and 400 wings and the east and middle gyms.
