G.I. Public Schools sponsoring 5K fun run/walk
Grand Island Public Schools is sponsoring a 5K fun run/walk at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Stuhr Museum.
Barr Middle School Counselor Holee Hanke and Walnut Middle School Social Worker Julie Schlachter are coordinating the event.
Registration forms are available at Barr, Walnut, and Westridge Middle Schools; the Kneale Administration Building; and also may be downloaded from Grand Island Public Schools' Web site at www.gips.org.
Hanke and Schlachter decided to organize the fun run/walk after attending a national middle school conference where the importance of exercise was emphasized.
The registration fee for Grand Island Public Schools students and staff is $5 per person before May 10 and $7 per person after that date. The registration fee for non-school-district students and adults is $10 per person before May 10 and $15 per person after that date.
Each registration form must be submitted with the registration fee (exact amount in cash or a check payable to Grand Island Public Schools). Registration forms and payment can be delivered to Holee Hanke at Barr Middle School, 602 W. Stolley Park Road; Julie Schlachter, Walnut Middle School, 1600 N. Custer Ave., 68803; or Lana Bushhousen, Westridge Middle School, 4111 W. 13th St. Registration forms and payment also may be mailed to Schlachter. Registration the day of the event opens at 7:30 a.m. May 22.
Prizes and giveaways will be awarded to participants the day of the race. Each prepaid registrant will receive a T-shirt.
