G.I. Public Schools names elementary schools that will pilot continuous school calendar

Grand Island Public Schools will begin the use of a continuous school calendar during the 2011-2012 school year by conducting a two-year pilot program affecting four elementary schools.

The schools that will pilot thr calendar are Howard, Jefferson, Starr, and West Lawn Elementary Schools.

The pilot program will consist of two phases. Howard Elementary School will begin a continuous school calendar during the 2011-2012 school year. Jefferson, Starr, and West Lawn Elementary School will start a continuous school calendar beginning the following year for the 2012-2013 school year.

The school district sent a letter dated Aug. 13 to parents of students at the four affected schools. A meeting for parents at each of the pilot schools will occur from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the schools. More meetings will be scheduled as the 2010-2011 school year progresses to share information, answer questions, and hear concerns.
