G.I. Public Schools approves negotiated agreement with G.I. Education Association

The Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education has approved a new agreement with the Grand Island Education Association concerning salaries and benefits for faculty members for the 2009-2010 school year, Director of Business Virgil Harden said.

The agreement has components including:
* A 2.08 percent increase on the indexed salary base.
* A $500 increase on the non-indexed salary base.
* A move from $600 deductible to $800 deductible health insurance.
* New employees are provided with employee health and dental insurance as a benefit.
* Previously negotiated horizontal, vertical, and longevity movement on the salary schedule.

The negotiated agreement with the Grand Island Education Association is now finalized.

The Grand Island Education Association notified the school district that their membership ratified the new agreement on Sept. 2.
