Former Husker star Matt Davison will speak at Barr Middle School’s Purple Hands Assembly on Jan. 18
Former University of Nebraska Cornhusker football star Matt Davison will speak at Barr Middle School’s Purple Hands Assembly at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the school’s gym at 602 W. Stolley Park Road, Principal Brian Kort said.
During the rally, Barr students will take the Purple Hands pledge that says, “I will not use my hands or my words for hurting myself or others.” The Purple Hands Program has been integrated into all three Grand Island Public Schools middle schools.
Davison, a native of Tecumseh, was named Nebraska High School Athlete of the Year in 1997. He finished his career as a Husker split end ranked second all-time among Nebraska receivers, trailing only Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers. Davison’s catch at the end of the Missouri game preserved Nebraska’s undefeated national championship season in 2007. Davison graduated from UNL in May 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies. He works as an announcer for the Husker Sports Network as the color analyst for Nebraska football and basketball games and is the co-host for the Doc Sadler Show.
