Fifth-grade girls compete in Basketball Bonanza

Grand Island Public Schools fifth-grade students competed in the Girls Basketball Bonanza Jan. 26 at Grand Island Senior High School.
Students participated in a variety of basketball skills tests and shooting games.

The skills tests include free throw shooting, 30-second continuous shooting, 30-second dribble/shooting, and 30-second hot shot shooting. Results were determined for competition in two sites: the Middle Gym and East Gym at the high school.

Results from the Girls Basketball Bonanza from the two sites are:

Middle Gym Competition

*Free Throws (10 shots total): 1, Jordan Gydesen, Dodge, 5; 2 (tie), Katelyn Ramold, Newell; Marleny Soriano, Lincoln; Ingrid Mateo-Montejo, Wasmer; and Sydney Durning, Engleman, all with 4.

*30-Second Shooting Test: 1, Nyaluak John, Newell, 11; 2, Delainey Forgy, Engleman, 9; 3 (tie), Jordan Gydesen, Dodge, and Anna Chiasson, Newell, both with 6; 5 (tie), Aszia Dickinson, Engleman; Soriya Santos, Knickrehm; Jasmine Gutschow, Knickrehm; Giovanna Lopez, Engleman; and Jaelyn Lembke, Wasmer, all with 5.

*Dribble and Shoot Test: 1 (tie), Delainey Forgy, Engleman; Anna Chiasson, Newell; and Nyaluak John, Newell, all with 15; 4, Madison Rosales, Newell, 14; 5 (tie), Selena Ramirez, Wasmer; Hannah Shafer, Jefferson; Giovanna Lopez, Engleman; Ingrid Mateo-Montejo, Wasmer; and Alize Valderaz, Jefferson, all with 12.

*30-Second Hot Shot Test: 1, Anna Chiasson, Newell, 10; 2, Delainey Forgy, Engleman, 9; 3, Ingrid Mateo-Montejo, Wasmer, 8; 4, Giovanna Lopez, Engleman, 7; 5 (tie), Ashley Williams, West Lawn; Erika Ascencion, Dodge; and Haylee Snyder, Wasmer, all with 6
East Gym Competition

*Free Throws (10 shots total): 1-2 (tie), Madeline Holland, Seedling Mile, and Katelyn Richardson, Seedling Mile, both with 7; 3, Chandler Hehnke, Wasmer, 6; 4-5 (tie), Irenna Perez, Wasmer; Amelia Iversen, Engleman; Esmeralda Arenivar, Wasmer; Aileen Ramos-Banda, Knickrehm; Kanemah Rambi, Knickrehm; Alysan Vonderohe, Newell; Kassie Kosinski, Newell; and Samantha Arevalo, West Lawn, all with 5.
*30-Second Shooting Test: 1, Madison Liske, Newell, 13; 2-3 (tie), Katelyn Richardson, Seedling Mile; and Esmeralda Arenivar, Wasmer, all with 12; 4-5 (tie), Valerie Ontiveros, Wasmer; and Madison Haubold, Engleman, both with 11.

*Dribble and Shoot Test: 1-2 (tie), Katelyn Richardson, Seedling Mile, and Lexis Chanthapatheth, Newell, both with 16; 3, Allison Couillard, Engleman, 15; 4-5 (tie), Amelia Iversen, Engleman; Esmeralda Arenivar, Wasmer; Aileen Ramos-Banda, Knickrehm; Kanemah Rambi, Knickrehm; Ryle Christensen, Jefferson; and Samantha Arevalo, West Lawn, all with 14.
*30-Second Hot Shot Test: 1, Katelyn Richardson, Seedling Mile, 17; 2-3 (tie), Madison Haubold, Engleman; and Moraika Aguilar, Lincoln, both with 11; 4, Esmeralda Arenivar, Wasmer, 10; 5, Amelia Iversen, Engleman, 9.
