Fifth-grade boys compete in Basketball Bonanza

Grand Island Public Schools fifth-grade students competed in the Boys Basketball Bonanza Feb. 28 at Grand Island Senior High School.

The fifth-graders participated in a variety of basketball skill tests and shooting games.

The skill tests include free throw shooting, 30-second continuous shooting, 30-second dribble and lay-up, and 30-second hot shot shooting.

Results from the Boys Basketball Bonanza competition in the East Gym and Middle Gym at the high school are:

East Gym

*Free Throw Contest: 1-4 (tie), Zach Lehechka, Stolley Park; Trey Heinen, Starr; Casey Burnham, Engleman; and Carson Hamik, Gates, all with 8; 5 (tie), Jesse Reynek, Gates; Steven Castillo, Knickrehm; Jeremiah Ivers, Knickrehm; Kohlten Keezer, Engleman; Yomed Padron, Jefferson; Rigo Torres-Morales, Knickrehm; Jacob Jacobo-Graves, Newell; and Cristian Aparicio, Jefferson, all with 7.

*30-Second Shooting Test: 1-2 (tie), Marcos Ramirez, Wasmer; and Casey Burnham, Engleman, both with 15; 3-4 (tie), Riley Schliep, Shoemaker; and Carson Hamik, Gates, both with 14; 5 (tie), Cade Griffin, West Lawn; Austin Anderson, Newell; Zach Lehechka, Stolley Park; Rigo Torres-Morales, Knickrehm; and Brennin Leach, Engleman, all with 13.

*Dribble and Shoot Test: 1, Casey Burnham, Engleman, 22; 2-4 (tie), Kohlten Keezer, Engleman; Josh Deladia, Stolley Park; and Yomed Padron, Jefferson, all with 19; 5, Brooks Douglass, Engleman, 18.

*30-Second Hot Shot Test: 1, Casey Burnham, Engleman, 16; 2-4 (tie), Zach Lehechka, Stolley Park; Jeremiah Pass, Dodge; Alexis Ortega-Garcia, Dodge, all with 13; 5 (tie), Jesse Reynek, Howard; Kohlten Keezer, Engleman; Carson Hamik, Gates; Alex Lazalde, Starr; William Nordhues, Jefferson; and Kale Gardner, Wasmer, all with 11.

Middle Gym

*Free Throw Contest: 1-5 (tie), Cody Moore, Engleman; Dylan Thomson, Stolley Park; Braden Collins, Engleman; Nathan Lawsen, Howard; and Musa Nadir, Newell, all with 6.

*30-Second Shooting Test: 1, Loegun Covey, Engleman, 15; 2, Dylan Thomson, Stolley Park, 12; 3-4 (tie), Andrew Cramer, Gates; Alejandro Ruiz, Dodge; and Javier Flores De La Rosa, Wasmer, all with 11; 5 (tie), Cody Moore, Engleman; Austen Korell, Engleman; Hector Erives, Wasmer; Joel Dominguez-Nunez, Dodge; and Tyson Newton, Engleman, all with 10.

*Dribble and Shoot Test: 1, Alejandro Ruiz, Dodge, 18; 2-3 (tie), Carlos Flores, Knickrehm; and Wyatt Ames, Engleman, both with 14; 4-5 (tie), Dylan Thomson, Stolley Park; Tyson Newton, Engleman; and Jimmy Riesch, Starr, all with 13.

*30-Second Hot Shot Test: 1-3 (tie), Alejandro Ruiz, Dodge; Garrett Ames, Engleman; and Nathan Lawsen, Howard, all with 11; 4, Henry Gomez, Wasmer, 10; 5 (tie), Jimmy Riesch, Starr; and Jesus Aguilar Nava, Howard, both with 9.
