Douglas Jensen named interim principal of Grand Island Senior High School

Douglas Jensen has been named interim principal of Grand Island Senior High School for the 2011-2012 school year, effective Aug. 16, according to Grand Island Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Rob Winter.

“We’re pleased that Doug has accepted this opportunity,” Winter said. “He has a long- standing, rich history with the school district and Grand Island Senior High School.”

The current principal, Dr. Kent Mann, submitted his resignation on July 8. Mann will remain as principal through the remainder of his contract, which ends Aug. 15. Jensen will work with Mann during the next month in the leadership transition, Winter said.

“We want to acknowledge Dr. Mann for his 19 years of service and wish him well in his new responsibilities with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,” Winter said.

Jensen’s 40-year career in education began in 1971 as a speech language pathologist for Educational Service Unit 10. He served as a speech language pathologist for Central Nebraska Support Service Program (CNSSP) from 1975 to 1984, was a CNSSP program coordinator at Grand Island Senior High School until 1989, and has served as an assistant principal at the high school since 1989.

Jensen earned a bachelor’s degree in speech language pathology, a master’s degree in speech language pathology, and a master’s degree in educational administration, all from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

A comprehensive search for a new principal for the 2012-2013 school year will begin this fall, Winter said.
