Grand Island, Nebraska: Every Student, Every Day, A Success!
Dodge Elementary School students don't have to leave their school to visit an island.
Instead, teachers have created a Reading Room decorated in an island theme with a hut, umbrella, loft, seaside wall covering, and other features.
Several events are planned this week to celebrate the grand opening of the Reading Room, Principal Stephanie Schulte said.
"It is an exciting opportunity for students to have a special place to enjoy and celebrate reading," Schulte said.
Teachers have been working for several months to get it ready. Students will be voting this week on the name for the new room, which will be used for student reading activity.
Special events planned this week include:
*Crazy Sock Day on Jan. 13.
*Waving Hair Day on Jan. 14.
*Pajama and Stuffed Animal Day to dive in and snuggle up with a good book on Jan. 15.
*Hawaiian Day on Jan. 16.
On Jan. 13 and Jan. 14, classes will be previewing the room and suggesting ideas for the name of it. On Jan. 15, principals will be reading to classes in the room, and voting for the name will occur.
The room was made possible through special funding from the Dodge Parent Teacher Organization and Northwestern Energy.
