Dedication scheduled for the new Success Academy

The Dedication Ceremony for the new Success Academy located at 1912 N Lafayette will be held Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 2 PM until 4 PM, with remarks at 3 PM. Building tours and refreshments will be available.

The Success Academy is an alternative learning program offered through Grand Island Public Schools serving students in grades 7 through12 who, for a wide variety of reasons, are benefactors of an alternative learning environment. The Academy serves 60 students on a regular basis.

“With a rich history of student success at the Academy, this new facility will enhance the program for many years to come,” Superintendent Rob Winter said. The project to remove the old structure and build the new facility began January 2011.

Students began attending classes in the CPI building on South Adams Street in January 2011 and moved back into their new facility over Christmas break, with classes resuming January 4, 2012.

“The new facility offers 11,000 square feet and the approximate project cost was $1.7 million” said Dan Petsch, coordinator of buildings and grounds for the Grand Island Public Schools.

“The building is spacious and very conducive to learning,” said Mr. Petsch. Green design techniques with high efficiency HVAC and finishes were used. The design allows for multifunctional uses with an ability to easily expand at a later date.

The Board of Education and Administration welcome the public to come tour this impressive educational facility – located southeast of Memorial Stadium on the Grand Island Senior High campus.
