Barr Middle School students raise money for Third City Community Clinic
Barr Middle School students raised $1,200 at the seventh annual Person
of Prominence nights in January and will donate the money to the Third
City Community Clinic, Barr social studies teacher Jason Weaver said.
Eighth-grade
students will present the donation to representatives from the Third
City Community Clinic at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in Barr's
auditorium, Weaver said.
"Students worked extremely hard on
their research projects, which incorporated learning targets for social
studies, language arts, and instructional technology classes. Now, they
also get to experience what it feels like to help people in their
community," Weaver said.
Person of Prominence nights were Jan. 8
and Jan. 10. The Person of Prominence (POP) unit integrates all three
eighth-grade core teams and involves all curricular areas. Students
portray prominent people in history, complete with costumes, at POP
nights. Students pose like they are in a wax museum. As guests approach
the students, they can place a small donation in a container. The
Person of Prominence then comes to life and shares a short story.
Students voted and chose to give the donated money to the Third City Community Clinic, Weaver said.
