The
Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is a private, non-profit
organization: a group of scholars and educators who use the findings
of linguistics and related sciences in identifying and addressing
language-related problems. CAL carries out a wide range of activities
including research, teacher education,analysis and dissemination of
information, design and development of instructional materials,
technical assistance, conference planning, program evaluation, and
policy analysis.
CREDE
is one of five national research and development centers funded by the
U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Research and
Improvement. In collaboration with the Center for Applied Linguistics
(CAL), the center supports the education of students from diverse
backgrounds through conducting research, identifying and developing
effective educational practices, and dissemination information through
print and other media (e.g. newsletters, research reports, videotapes).
Colorin
Colorado's website has a wide range of resources for educators and
parents. There are several links to current research articles in the
resource section. There is information available in both English and
Spanish.
This
website is also known as Dave's ESL Cafe. It has tips on classroom
techniques and exercises, how to find and keep a job in, certification
information, and employment postings.

IDRA
is an independent, non-profit organization that advocates the right of
every child to a quality education. For almost 30 years, IDRA has
worked for excellence and equity in education in Texas and across the
United States. IDRA conducts research and development activities;
creates, implements and administers innovative education programs; and
provides teacher, administrator, and parent training and technical
assistance.

site. Users can select from among 14 languages: Arabic, Bengali,
Brazilian Portuguese, Cantonese, Chinese, English, Haitian, Hmong,

The
National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) is the only
professional organization at the national level wholly devoted to
representing both English language learners and bilingual education
professionals. Along with our affiliate organizations in 23 states, we
represent a combined membership of more than 20,000 bilingual and
English-as-a-second-language teachers, administrators,
paraprofessionals, university professors and students, researchers,
advocates, policymakers, and parents.
The
Hispanic Family Learning Institute (HFLI), a division of the
National Center for Family Literacy
(NCFL), recognizes that parents, as well as professionals, can become
leaders in creating an educational community. To further its aim in
creating a literate nation, NCFL provides support for parents in their
efforts to educate themselves and take an active role in the education
of their children. The NCFL site includes information (in
English and
Spanish) about NCFL-provided and other useful ELL print and online resources, most of which are accessible
free of charge

Teaching

TESOL
- Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Langauges - is the acronym
that refers to the professional association, the profession, and the
field itself. The global professional association, headquartered in
Alexandria, Virginia, in the United States, has more than 13,500
members in over 140 countries and is recognized as a nongovernmental
organization (BGO) of the United Nations Department of Public
Information. Its mission is to ensure excellence in English language
teaching to speakers of other languages.
