GIPS K-12 Physical Education Program
Philosophy
All children and youth will display the skills and practices of a
physically active lifestyle, knowing the benefits of their choice to be
involved in physical activity. They will be physically fit and have a
mindset that values physical activity and its benefits in sustaining
healthy lifestyles.
Belief Statements
- Schools should provide a variety of opportunities for
physical activity in addition to physical education that meet all
students' needs and interests. Such opportunities could include daily
recess, active play during after-school programs, and access to school
facilities outside of school hours, interscholastic sports, intramural
programs, and physical activity clubs.
- Students are unique and reflect a wide range of diversity. So
a variety of instructional strategies and resources will be used to
enable students to participate fully and safely in physical activities.
- Curriculum is more than a collection of activities. It must
be based on sequential curriculum that is consistent with the National
Standards for Physical Education.
- Assessment should be ongoing, diagnostic, and aligned with instruction.
- To become physically educated is dependent on a mental
attitude that values physical activity and its' intrinsic benefits in
sustaining a healthy lifestyle.
