Within the School District of Grand Island,

Teaching and Learning Goal: Develop a comprehensive student centered P-12 education program using best practices and initiatives to meet each student’s education needs and engage each student in their learning.
Indicators:
- Develop a long-range plan to best meet the needs of 21st Century Learners.
- Design 21st century educational environments in cooperation with the Facilities study committee.
- Develop 21st century curriculum.
- Use technology tools to engage students.
- Differentiate professional development for all audiences (teachers, instructional support staff, building administrators, central office administrators and Board members).
- Increase graducation rate to 90% by 2015
- Connect every student in grades 6-12 to an interest based career/college pathway guided through a comprehensive counseling program with student/teacher/counselor/parents.
- Actions:
- Develop a peronal learning plan (PLP) with individual students.
- Conduct a minimum of 2 one-to-one meetings with counselor and student/parent each year.
- Analyze and utilize EXPLORE, PLAN, and ACT data.
- Plan to address credit deficiency.
- Connect with community resources.
- Implement a career and technical program to expand opportunities for students.
Communication Goal: Focus on effective and consistent communication with all Grand Island Public Schools stakeholders.
Indicators:
- Coordinate and monitor ongoing communication among stakeholder groups.
- Analyze the communications needs of Grand Island Public Schools.
- Communicate with parents, students and other stakeholders regarding learning opportunities and extra-curricular opportunities preK-12.
- Use technology and social media to communicate.
Personnel Goal: Ensure that the district has high quality exceptional human resources to accomplish the mission of the District.
Indicators:
- Increase relationships with higher education to enhance recruiting.
- Monitor and enhance the district’s web presence and publications used to recruit and attract quality staff.
- Implement the automated sub calling/leave management system.
Finance Goal: Maximize all sources of revenue to meet the needs and challenges of a diverse and growing school district and community, consistent with all other district goals.
Indicators:
- Develop a list of program priorities to prepare for a second year in the event of continued decrease in funding.
- Continue to push for restoration of full funding of TEEOSA (state aid) through legislative engagement.
Facilities Goal: Continue to review and update comprehensive facility plan that addresses student needs by utilizing facilities, community partnerships, and resources consistent with board priorities.
Indicators:
Decelop a location to encompass the needs of:
- Alternative learners (currently Ombudsman)
- Existing and new career technical pathway programs
- Virtual High School
- Consider impact of potential open space at Senior High
- Continue to examine space issues and seek creative solutions.
- Form a facilities study committee charged with developing an educational plan driven by 21st century learner needs.
